Angkor Golf Resort
-The world class Faldo designed Angkor Golf Resort is the best golf course in Cambodia and by a wide margin. The six-time major winner Nick Faldo himself, received a blessing from local monks and then opened the golf course in December 2007, his first golf course in Cambodia. The Angkor Golf Resort brings Cambodia squarely onto international golf destination map.
Tess, fairways, and greens are all maintained as what you would expect from a Faldo designed and IMG managed golf course. The latest Paspalum turf insures excellent year-round playing conditions.
The Siem Reap course is a fair test of golf for all players and requires thinking and strategy on every hole to score well. For example, the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards are tricky, but easily seen from each tee box. The greens have plenty of subtle undulations and they reward and encourage a variety of approach shots. On the other hand each holes difficulty can be moderated daily by specific pin positions, easy or challenging. Furthermore, various tee box locations allow for both low and mid handicappers to choose the right course length for their game.
Cambodia Golf & Country Club
- Set among 120 acres the 7000 plus yard Cambodia golf course was designed by Japanese and Taiwanese designers and is lined by sugar palm trees, native fruit and evergreen plants, flowers and rocks. Large and distant mountains in the background make for a relaxed day out golfing in Phnom Penh.
The front nine is rather flat, with wide fairways and many sand traps is surrounded by rice farms. The greens are very large and 3-putting is fairly common. The back nice is a bit hillier and more challenging. Elevation changes, long fairways, small greens and numerous ponds and bunkers characterize most of the holes. Club selection is critical to reach the greens in regulation. The Cambodia Golf and Country Club is a fair test of golf and rewards good play.
The Cambodia Golf & Country Club has a nice French style clubhouse with a good restaurant as well as areas for other sports such as swimming and tennis. All in all you will have a nice day out golfing in Phnom Penh.
Garden City Golf Club
- Garden City Golf Club opened in April 2013 and immediately emerged as one of the best golf courses in Phnom Penh. The par-72 golf course is laid out on 240 acres and is located 15 kilometers northeast of downtown Phnom Penh. The course conditioning from the use of Seashore Paspalum turf and operations management consulting by IMG is very good and comparable with the top courses in the region.
The layout has been conceived by architect Major General Weerayudth Phetbuasak, who also is responsible for excellent designs at Suwan and Sea Pine in Thailand and Phokeethra in Siem Reap. The overall design goal was to create a course that is tough for professional golfers yet playable for golfers of modest skill. Featureless rice paddy fields have been transformed into a course with many moguls, mounds, and man-made hazards. Large greens and water hazards on most holes characterize the strong palm-lined layout. From the 7,361 yard championship tees and with little roll on the fairways, Garden City is a real test of golf.
The signature 6th hole is the long 439 yard par-4 with water guarding both entire left side of the fairway and another lake on the right in front of the green. A par on this hole is an excellent achievement.
Royal Cambodia Golf Club ( Phnom Penh )
-Close to the capital of Phnom Penh and only 8 kilometers from the Phnom Penh International Airport is the Royal Cambodia Phnom Penh Golf Club. The 7,075 yard golf course is spread out over 200 hectares and nestled in amongst rice paddies and coconut palms. Being so close to the capital it is a favorite with locals and expatriates. Moreover since opening in 1999 Royal Cambodia has hosted numerous dignitaries and celebrities. In fact it is Prime Minister Hun Sen's preferred course as he got a hole-in-one at Royal Cambodia in 2004!
The Cambodia golf course emphasizes environmental protection as has preserved many of the original land features and used native palms, flowers and bushes to make the course shine. Moreover, since some of the course plays through natural wetlands there are many birds that graze in the on-course ponds and streams.
The international standard golf course features 18 holes that are each unique. The course is rather flat yet it still provides a challenge with numerous sand and water hazards, including a large lake near the third hole. Four tee boxes allow for a wide range of distances to be played and welcome golfers of all levels. Water comes into play on 12 of the 18 holes and nice greenside bunkering promotes accurate shots into each of the undulated greens.
The large Royal Cambodia clubhouse combines the traditional Cambodian architecture with modern convenience. Facilities are adequate for most Cambodia golf visitors. The golf driving range is the largest in Phnom Penh and a good place to warm up before your round.
Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club
- The Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club (formerly Siem reap Lake Golf Resort) was the third international standard golf course to be opened in Angkor Wat. The $150 million US dollar course took 1 year to construct and is located only 6 kilometers from the center of Siem Reap town.
The course was designed by Kentaro Sato, the well-known Japanese golf course designer. No expense has been spared making the Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club the largest Angkor Wat golf complex. Several high profile local tournaments have been held at the course including visits by dignitaries such as the Cambodian prime minister. Luxury villas surround the course and although unoccupied, each is a sight to behold in its own right.
The Siem Reap Lake Booyoung Country Club layout features generous palm lined fairways and with 5 sets of tees is suitable for both beginners and the most accomplished golfers. Both nines open with long par 5's which is a bit unusual. Additionally, the toughest par 4's are saved for holes 9 and 18, insuring that golfers keep their concentration through to the end of the front and back, respectively, to score well.
